Increasing Whole Grains & Improving School Nutrition

We applaud the USDA’s recent announcement about its revamped school meal nutrition standards while acknowledging that school food service personnel have worked long and hard to deliver the most nutritious meals possible for the budgets they’ve been given. The new guidelines are a clear indication of the USDA’s dedication to the health and well-being of this country’s children and we look forward to their implementation.

Our Thoughts on Sodium Consumption

In response to the recent report from CDC on sodium consumption in the U.S., the Grain Foods Foundation would like to stress it supports the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommendation to decrease dietary sodium intake. We also recognize the importance of sodium reduction in the food supply and the efforts by consumers to reduce their daily sodium intake. However, the approach to sodium reduction efforts must incorporate both industry and individual responsibility.
